The City of Maryland Heights seeks a full-time Marketing/Communications Specialist. This position reports to the Communications Manager and performs complex administrative, technical, and professional work in providing information to the public on a broad range of programs, services, issues and policies. 

The annual pay range for this exempt position is $67,315 to $85,810.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • The Assistant Communications Manager will take on the role of Acting Communications Manager when needed.
  • Oversees content management by proofreading and ensuring consistency across all channels
  • Assist Marketing/Communication Specialists with design and project management by overseeing implementation and timelines.
  • Lead collaborative efforts with all departments on projects and communication efforts while managing campaigns, ads, and promotional items; research advertisement options, create graphics, and assess ad performance;
  • Coordinate video shoots and assist with development of training and promotional videos.
  • Prepare reports and oversee policy content and workflow development. Manage ADA accessibility.
  • Plans and implements marketing and communication to support the city endeavors designed to keep the public informed regarding city programs, services, activities, accomplishments, policies and procedures.
  • Researches data, creates ideas, writes copy, lays out artwork, proofreads documents, prepares reports, and other written or visual material needed for grant applications, public presentations, newsletters, brochures, fact sheets, news releases, tapes, reports, informational displays, special projects, etc.
  • All other duties as assigned.

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:
(A) Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Administration, or a closely related; and
(B)  Three (3) years of progressively responsible work in a field of communications; or
(C)  Working knowledge of public programs and services; considerable knowledge of communications and publications techniques and practices; considerable knowledge of computerized word processing, desktop publishing, graphic applications, and basic internet skills.
(D)     Must be proficient in Adobe Creative Suite software. Must possess a valid driver’s license.    (E)   The ability to analyze and interpret complex information; the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, city officials, the media and the general public; the ability to communicate complex issues effectively, orally and in writing; and the ability to present a diverse range of material using a variety of media.
